TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Local university students are promoting the use of hemp across the state.
The Hemp Casita is a small, transportable house constructed by graduate students at Kansas State University in 2023.
Now, the house is on its way around the state stopping at different events like its stop at Evergy Plaza on Friday.
The goal is to promote hemp and demonstrate how it can be a beneficial material.
”For farmers, now is most important to be adopting this crop because of all of its benefits,” said Kelly Rippel, a member of the Kansas Department of Agriculture’s hemp advisory panel. “Not just for their ecosystem but for their bottom line and by getting ahead, farmers can look to hemp to put into their rotation.”
The Hemp Casita’s next stop is the Kansas State Fair in September.
The tour will end once it arrives at its final destination at a children’s charity in New Jersey, Hearts of Mercy.
